KUDER/MCIS: Athletic Trainer

KUDER/MCIS Cluster Name: Social.
Career Name: Athletic Trainer.
Education Needed: High School Diploma and a Bachelors degree. Some helpful courses would be Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Fitness, Keyboarding, and Safety and First Aid. Most of the time you need a special licence to be an Athletic Trainer. It varies by state.
Job Protection: The annual openings for the state of Minnesota is only 14. At a national standpoint, there are only 741 job openings.
Minnesota Hourly Wage and Yearly Salary: Hourly is $18.95, and the yearly wage is $39,420.
National Hourly Wage and Yearly Salary: Hourly is $19.06, and the yearly wage is $39,640.

Three reasons I might be successful in this career are that I love sports and would enjoy going to all of the sporting events. Also, I would like helping the athletes and enjoy doing all I can do to get them playing again. The third reason would be because in order to be an Athletic Trainer you would need a variety of skills, including dentistry, medicine, physiology, counseling skills, therapy, and even more. It is not likely that I would be doing the same thing all day everyday. There would always be a new challenge.

Three reasons I might not be successful in this career would be the fact that they work long, unpredictable hours, which I wouldn't necessarily like. I also might not be successful in the area of taking a player out of the game for an injury, especially when they think they can still play. I play sports now in high school and know what it is like when the trainer tells you you can't play. It's tough. The third reason would be that there aren't a lot of open jobs, so out of college, it may be tough to find a job in my career field.
